First, you need to authorize your email address for sending:

  1. Log into your WebSMS account
  2. Navigate to Settings → Email to SMS
  3. Add your authorized email addresses
  4. Configure your sender ID (optional)
Step 2: Sending Format

Use these formats for different regions:

  • New Zealand: 642XXXXXXXX@sms.websms.co.nz
  • Australia: 614XXXXXXXX@sms.websms.co.nz
  • International: [country-code][number]@sms.websms.co.nz

Message Content:

  • Subject line is ignored (can be used for reference)
  • Email body becomes the SMS message
  • Maximum 160 characters (longer messages split automatically)
  • HTML is stripped, plain text only

Messages are processed and sent within seconds of receiving the email. The total delivery time is typically under 10 seconds from when you hit send in your email client.
Can I send to multiple recipients at once?
Yes! You can use the CC or BCC fields to send to multiple mobile numbers at once. Each recipient receives an individual SMS. This is perfect for group notifications or alerts.
What happens if the email address isn't authorized?
For security, only pre-authorized email addresses can send SMS through the gateway. Unauthorized attempts are rejected and the sender receives a bounce-back email with instructions on how to get authorized.
