About One NZ (formerly Vodafone NZ)
One NZ is one of New Zealand's largest mobile network operators, serving roughly 35% of NZ mobile subscribers. The company was Vodafone New Zealand from 1998 until 31 March 2023, when it rebranded to One NZ following its acquisition by Infratil and Brookfield Asset Management in 2019.
One NZ operates the full 021 range as its primary mobile prefix — 021 is the original NZ mobile prefix dating from 1998 when Bell South / Vodafone launched, and remains the most common NZ mobile prefix today. The 029 range (0290-0299) was originally allocated to TelstraClear and migrated to Vodafone when TelstraClear's mobile business was acquired in 2012.
Although the brand has changed, the network and number allocations are stable. WebSMS routes One NZ messages through a direct SMPP connection and checks the IPMS in real time, so messages reach the recipient even if their number has been ported from One NZ to Spark or 2degrees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is One NZ the same as Vodafone NZ?
Yes. Vodafone NZ rebranded to One NZ on 31 March 2023. Same network, same number allocations, same SMPP carrier identifier (VFNZ).
Which prefixes belong to One NZ?
The full 021 range (0210-0219), the full 029 range (0290-0299), plus 0205, 0270, and the 02885/02886 sub-blocks. See the table above for the NAD-sourced list.
How much does it cost to SMS a 021 or 029 number?
From 8c per message at volume, 8.5c standard. No setup fees, no monthly subscription, no contracts. See full pricing.
What about 029 numbers from TelstraClear?
The 029 range was originally TelstraClear's mobile allocation. After Vodafone NZ acquired TelstraClear's mobile business in 2012, 029 numbers moved to the Vodafone (now One NZ) network. They route the same way as any other One NZ number.
What if the recipient has ported away from One NZ?
Every message is checked against the live IPMS register. If a 021/029 number has been ported to Spark or 2degrees, WebSMS routes it to the correct carrier automatically. Try the portability checker.
